OVERVIEW

The Town envisions Legion Property as a unique opportunity to address a range of community needs related to affordable housing, recreation, and climate resilience on 48 acres of Town land. The Town plans to develop a world-class park with both active and passive recreation, the preservation of existing natural areas, as well as affordable housing. 

In 2017 the Town purchased the 36.2 acre property located at 1714 Legion Road. Town staff are currently working to achieve affordable housing and a Town park on the site, as approved by the Town Council in December 2022. PROJECT STATUS

In December 2023, the Town selected DHIC as its development partner to build affordable housing on the Legion site. DHIC’s preliminary concept includes approximately 160 units for households earning less than 60% of the Area Median Income. Their plans also emphasize connectivity with both the future park planned for the property and the existing neighborhoods surrounding the site.

DHIC and Town staff are working with engineering consultants to determine next steps for confirming the developable area of the site. Once site conditions are clear, DHIC will begin engaging key stakeholders around the design of the affordable residential community and securing site plan approvals and funding sources. The team hopes to break ground in 2027.
