What is Affordable Housing?
Affordable housing is housing that costs no more than 30% of a household’s income. To qualify for subsidized affordable housing, household income typically must fall below 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI), which varies by household size.
To qualify for the income restricted (80% or below of Area Median Income) homes your income must fall within the chart.

Greenfield: A partnership between the Town of Chapel Hill and DHIC
An exciting partnership has led to the creation of 149 new affordable housing units in Chapel Hill. The Town has partnered with DHIC, Inc., a regional nonprofit provider, owner, and operator of affordable housing to create permanently affordable rental housing in the Ephesus Fordham District.
The Town has provided Town land and affordable housing funds to be used with DHIC’s awarded Low Income Housing Tax Credits and development experience tocreate 149 new affordable housing units for low income families and seniors in Chapel Hill. Phase 1 construction is complete and Phase 2 is projected to be completed by the end of 2018.
