Town Surpasses Affordable Housing Development Goals

As part of the Town of Chapel Hill’s efforts to increase access to housing for all residents, the Town has set annual targets for affordable housing preservation and development. This year the Town has not only met, but surpassed its’ development target of 80 subsidized housing units with over 95 new affordable units developed in this fiscal year alone, in addition to the completion of 9 preservation projects. This number brings the Town to over 1,000 units of subsidized affordable housing overall.

The Town has worked on these projects in conjunction with organizations like Habitat for Humanity, DHIC, Self-Help, Community Empowerment Fund, EmPOWERment, Inc., and Community Home Trust; all of which share the Town’s goal of creating a range of housing options in Chapel Hill. The Town will continue working to increase access to housing for individuals of all incomes by collaborating with our partners for both development and preservation projects.
